It’s the end of another year and it’s time to reflect on all that has happened and was searched by users on Google. Around the world, individuals in the year 2022 searched around the focus of “change”. Whether it was learning about global issues or pop culture, finding a new passion, hobby or lifestyle, or helping a neighbor or friend in need, users searched around the perspective of change. In this article, we discuss search findings from this year’s Google Year in Search Report. Let’s get started!

Finding New Ways to Search

While there are terms we can type in and search for, there are also different methods that have evolved in the way individuals have searched this past year. There is mention of a top global Hum to Search song category going to Ali Sethi’s “Pasoori”. This category finds its results from users utilizing voice search.

Individuals also utilized Google’s voice assistant by asking, “Hey Google” to help make things a little bit easier for everyday life. From setting 7am alarm clocks (which was the most popular alarm time people asked to set), to making you laugh with “tell me a joke” being a top ask followed by “one more.”

Another method of search that has evolved is image search and specifically on Google, Google Lens. Individuals most commonly use Lens to translate an image to help get a better understanding of things. It assisted individuals in exploring the world around them by identifying what they saw. In fact, the top searched animals on Lens this year were the domestic short-haired cat, tabby cat and polydactyl cat.
