2021 was all about hardships, struggles, and the pain we experienced as individuals from the previous troublesome year. However, through all of the hardships, 2021 has taught us how to make a comeback. Through inspiration, staying strong, and building each other up, 2021 has brought lots of triumph and resilience around the globe.

Google revealed this year’s 2021 Search Report which compiles all of the trends, questions, topics, and moments that we searched for the most this year. The list contains different newsworthy categories that took place and what topics increased in popularity compared to past years. It also takes into account different locations and the time of year.

In last year’s report, individuals searched for losses, wins, and new ways to adapt in the year 2020 and individuals did so in the year 2021. This year’s video highlights all of the hardship and challenges people faced in 2021. It also shows ways individuals fought and grew from these events:

Globally, the top 5 searches overall were:

  1. Australia vs India
  2. India vs England
  3. IPL
  4. NBA
  5. Euro 2021

In the United States, the top 5 searches overall were:

In the year of rebuilding, Google highlights how individuals learned how to heal. With the feeling of grief and loneliness around the world, Google records that ‘healing’ was searched more than ever before in 2021.

Through the big and small moments, to new experiences and feelings, new trends grew more this year than in the past. More people experienced the outdoors more and searched for ways to explore it. People also continued to work from home in changing and being flexible in their careers. Trends also helped change stigmas within certain communities and groups for more awareness and assistance. Overall, the biggest topic and trend was learning to heal in different and unique ways.
