Having a Google local page means that when users search for your company or businesses like it, you will appear on Google Maps and in local searches. This will enable you to reach even more users. Actually, your business may already be listed. In this case, it is important to claim the listing to make sure that it has the correct information.

How To Sign Up for Google My Business

The first step is to sign up for Google My Business. Head to google.com/business and click “Start Now.” If you already have a Google account, you can sign in straight away — this will be the case if you use any Google services. Otherwise, create a new account.

How To Claim Your Business on Google Maps

The next step is to see if your business already exists. Search for your business using its name and address. If there is already a listing, it will appear in the search results.

There is a chance that someone else has already verified your business. In this case, you will need to click “Request ownership” and fill out a form. This will send the current owner an email and you a confirmation email.

However, most of the time, this will not be the case. You simply need to claim and verify the listing yourself. There are several ways to verify, but not all will be available to you. All businesses can verify by postcard (this takes a few days) and some are able to verify by phone, email, or even instantly (if you’ve already verified your website with Google Search Console, this may be an option).

How To Add Your Business To Google Maps

If you search for your business and nothing appears, you will need to add a listing. You will need to input your address and you may also need to select your location on the map.

If you never serve customers at your address, you should check the box next to “I deliver goods and services to my customers.” You can also check the box next to “Hide my address (it’s not a store) Only show region —” After you click “Next,” you will need to select a delivery area.

To finish setting up your business, you need to choose an appropriate business category and enter your phone number or website URL. Finally, verify your business by clicking “Continue” and choose the verification option you want. You can click “Try a different method” and choose “Later” if you want to leave verifying for now, such as if you lack authorization for this.

How To Optimize Your Google+ Page

Your Google local listing is linked to your Google+ page.

Current Google+ Sizing Information

You need to have the right size images on your Google+ page to show that your business is professional and authentic. Remember, many customers will learn about your business through a Google search, meaning your Google+ page may contribute to their first impression of your company. Furthermore, ensuring that you use the right format on all your social media accounts leads to consistent branding. The problem is knowing what dimensions are appropriate for different types of photos on Google+. To help you out, we’ve created this cheat sheet.
