People love watching videos. In 2016, video content made up 73 percent of all consumer Internet traffic. By 2020, it will be 82 percent. Knowing this, it makes no sense to not invest in video marketing — and a good place to start is with a YouTube channel.

Step 1: Create a Google Account

You need to have a Google account to set up a YouTube channel. It’s likely that you already have one. If you don’t (or if you want a new one for your business), it’s easy to set one up.

Head to YouTube.com and find “Sign In,” located in the upper right of the screen. On the page that appears, you’ll see “More options.” Click this and choose “Create account.”

Step 2: Log Into YouTube

If you already have a Google account, click the same “Sign In” button as above. Enter the Google account you want to use for your YouTube channel.

Step 3: Create Your Channel

At the top right of the page, you’ll see a profile icon. Click this to make a drop-down menu appear. Click the “Settings” icon to arrive at an “Overview” page. Here you can create a new channel. Make sure that you create a brand account and choose a name that users will relate with your business. You may need to verify your account by text message or voice call before you can continue further.

Step 4: Customize Your Channel

By clicking “Customize Channel” at the top of the screen, you can add basic information about your brand to your channel. Click on the “Settings” icon and then “Advanced Settings.” Here you can select your country, input keywords to enhance visibility, decide whether you want to enable advertisements, and link an AdWords account, if you have one.

Next, head to the “About” tab. Add a description for your channel, links to your other social media accounts and website, and links to overlay your channel art.

Step 5: Add Images

Only by adding channel art will your account look complete. Most important here is making sure that you use the right sizes for an optimal appearance.

Click “Add channel art” to upload a channel cover photo. This image should be 2560 pixels by 1440 pixels. Next, you need a profile picture. Brand channels need to head to “About Me” to upload this image. Choose a photo that is 800 pixels by 800 pixels for the best results — it will appear as 98 pixels by 98 pixels.

Step 5: Upload Videos

The final stage is to upload videos. It is best to upload high-definition videos to improve the experience for viewers. To qualify for full HD, videos need to be at least 1280 pixels by 720 pixels.

Once you’ve done all this, your channel is ready to go. Get the most out of YouTube by utilizing video marketing best practices. This will optimize your content for search and increase interactions with videos.
