22 Mar How to Set Up a Business Instagram Profile with the Right-Size Images [Infographic]
Instagram is now one of the top social media platform for both users and businesses. Brands use the platform to show off their personality as well as their products. With a business account, you receive access to additional features that allow you to reach more of your target audience and provide users with the information they need to convert.
Step 1: Download the Instagram App
If you’re an Instagram veteran, this is obvious. However, if you’re newer to the Instagram world, it’s important to know that, unlike Facebook and Twitter, the majority of Instagram functions are only available on the mobile app. You can view and interact with photos on your desktop computer, but anything else, including setting up a business account, must be done via mobile.
If you already have the Instagram app installed, make sure that it’s the latest version.
Step 2: Sign Up or Log In
You can sign up with your email address, log in with your Facebook account, or log into your personal profile (if you want to turn this one into a business account).
Step 3: Change to a Business Account
Head to settings and look for the option “Switch to Business Account.”
Step 4: Set Up Your Profile
Add all your business details, like a phone number, store hours, and address. If you are connected to Facebook, Instagram will populate this information automatically. You can remove any information you’d prefer not to have on Instagram. If you choose to include a phone number, you can decide whether you’d rather people contact you by call or text.
Step 5: Add Profile Picture
Every social media account needs a profile picture; otherwise it looks incomplete. As your profile picture on Instagram will appear 110 by 110 pixels, it’s best to choose a square photo.
Step 6: Start Posting Content
Start posting high-quality photos immediately. To improve the visibility of your content, make sure to include hashtags with your posts.
You can upload square or rectangular images with ratios between 1.91:1 and 4:5. Instagram image size is now 1080 by 1080 pixels, although the platform scales photos down to 612 by 612 pixels. Bear in mind that images will appear in your feed at 510 by 510 pixels and as thumbnails on your page as 161 by 161 pixels.
Step 7: Create Stories
Another way to share content is through stories. The aspect ratio for stories is 9:16. Aim for a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels — the minimum is 600 by 1067 pixels.
Step 8: Follow Other Users
A final thing to do is follow other users on the platform. This will show that you’re an active member of the community. Search for people and businesses you know and hashtags relevant to your brand to find users whose content you can comment on and share.
