Facebook for Business?

Facebook for Business?

What is Facebook? If you haven’t heard of Facebook yet, I would like to congratulate you on exiting your cave and welcome you to the wonderful world of the Internet. Those who have heard of Facebook already know of its growing influence on the web.

Facebook is arguably the most popular website in the world, yes even more popular than our beloved Google. Facebook and all social media for that matter are increasingly important tools for businesses to get found and engage with potential buyers online. Many think that Facebook is for the college, twenty-something types looking for somewhere to chat, but in fact Facebook has over 750 million active users with more than two-thirds of those users outside of college.

Not only is Facebook used for personal social interaction, many businesses have started using it to reach out to their customers.  How can your business use Facebook?

○ As of 2011, approximately 1 in every 13 people on earth are active on Facebook.

○ 48% of 18 to 34-year-olds check Facebook right when they wake up.

○ 30% of the entire Facebook user base falls into the 35+ demographic.

○ 71.2% of the U.S. Web Audience is on Facebook – representing 146.8 million people!

○ 48% of young Americans said they find out about news through Facebook.

○ In 20 minutes on Facebook, the following occurs:

• 1 million links are shared

• 2.7 million photos are uploaded

• 2.7 million messages are sent

• 1.8 million status updates

• 10.2 million comments are made

Tapping into the gold mine of 750 million potential customers is easier than you might think. Creating a Facebook account allows businesses to have an even greater online presence and involve their customers in everyday aspects of their business.

Facebook Page

A Facebook page is different than a “profile page.” Facebook pages are specific to businesses, organizations, brands, products, causes, or even public figures.

Here are the benefits of a Facebook page:

• There is the option of a “vanity URL.” By default, Facebook will assign a generic URL such as: facebook.com/pages/yourbusiness/1234567890. You can request your own vanity URL (for example, you might have a URL like facebook.com/yourbusiness), which makes it easier for people to find you.

• Facebook pages are public pages and have distinct marketing benefits over profile pages

• Keep your personal interaction on your Facebook profile separate from your business interactions on your business Facebook page.

• Integrate with an RSS feed from your website.

• Build custom applications for specific customer interactions

Facebook provides many opportunities for businesses online.  Create your business’s Facebook page to tap into the 750 million potential customers.

P.S.: Don’t forget to add a “Like” button on your website too!
