7 Tips to Increase Brain Power in the Workplace [Infographic]

1. Take Care of Interior Design

It’s not a secret that people have different design preferences. When it comes to interior design, we rely on our ‘wants and needs’. However, if you know the tricks about the ‘right’ design, you can use the psychology of color to improve your brain power. For example, green color improves efficiency and focus.

Thus, you need to think about the placement of all your stuff as a properly-designed workplace can keep you more productive.

2. Set up the Right Physical Environment

The right physical environment affects your mental and physical health, and therefore keeps your mind sharp. From finding the source of natural light to keeping your workplace at the optimal room temperature, there are many ways to make affect your productivity without putting much effort.

  • 77°F is an optimal room temperature to stay focused and concentrated

  • your writing desk should be placed in front of the source of natural light
  • choose a desk lamp with a cold white light (6000 K) to improve concentration
  • air out the room for 5-10 minutes every hour

3. Choose Quality Furniture

Not only should your office furniture look good, but it also should be comfortable. The quality of workplace furniture is an important factor for your productivity as it impacts your health. If you have the right furniture (writing desk, office chair, etc.), you can stay productive.

The first step to choosing quality furniture is defining your requirements: buy mobile and functional items only. For example, your office chair should support your lower back and your writing desk should be big enough to place your hands on while writing.

4. Organize Your Writing Desk

If you have a good and comfortable writing desk, that’s great. If you can make the most out of it with the right organization, that’s even better. For example, it’s important to keep your writing desk tidy and declutter it from all things you don’t use daily – notes, books, pens, etc. Before you start working, you need to ensure you have all items you need in the right places. It will help you save time when it comes to searching for a particular item.

5. Get Rid of Distractions

There are so many things that can distract your attention: email notifications, meetings, conferences, social media and much more. Every time you’re distracted from the working process, it takes time to come back to work. Thus, it’s better to get rid of distractions in advance:

  • Use drawers to keep documents
  • Hang bookshelves to place books
  • Install distraction-killing apps on your computer

6. Improve Your Health in the Workplace

Your health affects your mood and productivity. If you’re healthy, you can work better. Thus, it’s important to keep your health at a good level even while working. From drinking green tea to doing a short workout, there are many ways to improve your health in the workplace. If you don’t want to spend time on health while working, you can buy plants that release oxygen which also positively affects your health.

7. Decorate Your Workplace

Details matter, especially when it comes to workplace organization. If you believe that having photos or plants is a bad idea, we have bad news for you. Such things have a positive impact on your brain power for a variety of reasons.

Are you a pet owner? That’s great! It’s proven that pets in the workplace add coziness and improve your job performance as they trigger the release of oxytocin which makes you want to work better. The more motivated you are, the better your performance is. All in all, it’s important to decorate your workplace and make it a cozy place for working.
