You’re about to start blogging? Awesome. Hubspot reports that 81% of companies consider their blogs “useful,” “important,” or “critical”.

However, it’s important that you blog the right way in order to keep readers engaged. In doing so, you will bring in more customers and make those customers increasingly loyal to your brand.

So the question is…

How do you keep readers engaged?

Here are several different ways to do so.

Long Blog Posts

Long detailed comprehensive blog posts can help keep readers engaged with your blog. While you might not think readers will stay tuned long enough for a 2000+ word post, Google reports quite the opposite. Of course it shouldn’t be a bunch of mumbo jumbo that doesn’t provide value. The post needs to be informative, comprehensive, and interesting in order for it to provide value and engage the reader.

These posts can work well for explaining topics that have many points to them such as a step by step tutorial or buying guide.

A “long blog post” could be anywhere from 1500 to 3000 words, if not longer.

There are negatives to long posts too as they can turn away readers with short attention spans. However, as noted above, if the posts are informative, comprehensive and interesting…readers tend to engage.

Graph and Chart Blog Posts

Since people like imagery and facts, graphs and charts are a great way to engage them. You can write blog posts that revolve around information you put in the graphs and charts. As for the information that you put in those graphs and charts, it can have something to do with stats in your industry or your company.

Video Blog Posts

Video blog posts work well to engage audiences and they’re nice because they allow you to take a break from writing blogs. Switch things up! This medium allows you to get more personal with your audience and tell stories in a more powerful way. You can even create a video about your brand, product, service, event, etc. and then write a blog to go with it.

Transcribed Blog Posts

Some people prefer to read information rather than listen to it. You can create a blog post by transcribing interesting audio content that was originally posted on YouTube or elsewhere.

On Topic Posts
Be sure to stay on topic. While most businesses have a wide range of topic possibilities you can write about, always be sure that they tie back and relate to your target audience.

Discussion Blog Posts

What’s a better way to engage your readers than actually starting a conversation with them? You can write posts that are simply meant to start a discussion. These aren’t usually long posts, but they can be very effective. All you have to do is put a bit of information that you want to talk about and then pose a question to your readers.
