A good website starts by having good content. If a client goes to your website and cannot tell instantly what services your company provides, where you are located and how to get in contact with you, then your site could probably use a little bit of help. By the end of this article, you should be able to rewrite your website so that it is not only easily accessible to humans, but also to any search engine spiders that might come to visit.

A basic website includes a homepage, a products and services page and a contact us page. Let’s take a good look at your homepage. First of all, the name of your company needs to be in big, bold letters somewhere near the top of this page. Ideally, it should be in your logo where everyone is going to see it and recognize it. Prospective clients aren’t going to call you if they can’t figure out your name.

Your homepage should also include a short overview of your company, including information that separates you from your competition. Keep this overview short (under 150 words), as the average person will stop reading if it is too lengthy. You might choose to include information about when the company was founded, how big it is or why your clients choose you over other local businesses. Discuss also, in general details, what kinds of services and products your company offers its clients, but don’t go into specifics here as those will be covered on the products and services page on your website. The general information of the products and services is only listed here so that any person that comes to your site will know right off the bat if you are, in fact, the company that they are searching for. Above all, when you are creating your overview, make sure that everything you write is spelled correctly and is grammatically correct. There is nothing worse than finding the perfect company, but losing faith in them because they have misspelled the word “guaranteed.”

Your products and services page should include, in detail, what services you offer to your clients. Often, the best products and services page includes bulleted lists of what is being offered. Extremely long lists of over twenty services are unnecessary. If you find that your list is too long, don’t be afraid to generalize and categorize. Similarly to the overview, people tend to get lazy and won’t read lists that are too long. Try not to exaggerate your services so that you can make the list longer. Including a bullet with the words, “Other Stuff” will not be taken seriously by your customers. You might also want to include pictures on this page of projects that you have completed. You might also want to include these on another page if you have the resources to create one.

Finally, the best way to find new customers is to offer them the option to contact you. By including a ‘Contact Us‘ page on your site, you are giving your potential customers an easy way to get in contact with you. Be sure to include areas such as their name, phone number, email address and a text box where they will be able to ask questions or tell you more about what they are looking for from your company. You will then be able to call them or email them. You will also be able to resolve any potential concerns that they have right off the bat. There is no good reason why every company should not have a page like this on their site.

Of course, your company may choose to put more pages on your website, which will engage your readers more fully. This is not a bad thing as long as they are organized in a cohesive manner. By having a clearly defined homepage, products and services page and a contact us page, you will be able to demonstrate to your customers that you know exactly what they are looking for in a company like yours and they, in turn, will be able to find you and utilize your services more quickly. Doing this will allow everyone to win. Good content will do that for you.
