In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Boostability is hosting a regular webinar series, Search Sessions. To see the rest of the series, click here.

In this first installment of Boostability’s new series Search Sessions, Amanda Price (Vice President of Marketing) was joined by Mike Marsh (SEO Manager) and Colton Miller (Director of SEO) for a conversation about how the novel coronavirus is affecting SEO.

We’ve written several articles about COVID-19 and its effects on small businesses, but overwhelmingly, the advice is this: have a long term mindset.

There’s value in keeping things “normal.”

We know this is a scary, uncertain time. You are making choices for situations you never imagined you’d be in. But as difficult as it seems, there is value in keeping things as close to normal as possible.

Opportunity exists in uncertainty. If you pull back now, your business will suffer two-fold—in the current situation and when the market regains its footing. By continuing to put in the effort now, you’ll see returns in the future while your competition will struggle to catch up.

Keep up with your competition.

With many of your competitors stepping out of the arena, use this time to strategically position your business for success when the market stabilizes. To do that, consider

  • Conducting a competitive audit
  • Focusing on content creation, keyword targeting and SEO optimizations
  • Offering special packages or discounts
  • Pivoting your business model

While you keep things “normal,” look for ways to innovate.
