We’re here to celebrate the one year birthday of an artificial intelligence machine named ChatGPT. ChatGPT has undoubtedly left a huge mark on the world. ChatGPT, along with other AI tools, has made tasks substantially easier by typing a prompt and getting a human-like answer. In this article, we will reflect on ChatGPT’s timeline, when they started, and how far they’ve come. Let’s get started!

ChatGPT Timeline

On November 30th, 2022, OpenAI announced the launch of ChatGPT to any and all users.

As more and more individuals started to use it, more suggestions and improvements came from it. Even before the new year of 2022, ChatGPT had new features and general performance enhancements for users to manage their conversation history.

As the new year of 2023 began, ChatGPT improved in factuality and features in stopping individuals from generating a response mid-conversation. By doing this, it helped address and improve user feedback.

The next most significant moment for ChatGPT was in February 2023. They announced, aside from the free version, ChatGPT Plus, which was a faster version for users if they paid for it. Later in March, they introduced GPT-4 to ChatGPT Plus subscribers.

Then, later in March, experimental AI plugins, including browsing and code interpreter capabilities, were made available to select users.

May had a lot happening, including allowing individuals to turn off chat history and export their data. Also, users received early access to experimental web browsing and third-party plugins. The app also expanded to more countries and had new features, including shared links, Bing web browsing, and the option to turn off chat history on the app.

The next improvement to the app was made in June when the browsing feature itself underwent temporary removal for improvements. Then, in July, the Code Interpreter feature was rolled out in beta to Plus users.

August brought a lot of minor updates that helped improve the user experience. Then, at the end of August, ChatGPT launched ChatGPT Enterprise, which offered advanced features and security for enterprise users.

In September, interactive capabilities, including voice and image inputs, were brought out. Then we entered into the end of the year with ChatGPT integrating DALLE 3 into the beta version. This allows users to add images to their text prompts.

Lastly, in November, ChatGPT allowed the voice feature to be made available to all users.

What’s to Come?

While the future looks imminent, as AI becomes a part of our everyday lives, what can we truly expect from ChatGPT? This past year has been a testament to the capabilities and advancements in AI and how individuals can utilize tools such as these.

With individuals becoming more and more interested in using AI, the future looks promising for AI platforms such as ChatGPT. I don’t think anyone expected AI’s impact on 2023, but it will be exciting and almost scary to see what is to come in 2024.
