Search Engine Optimization (SEO) can be accomplished in a variety of ways. Two of the most common methods include 1- partnering with an individual or small team and 2- outsourcing to a company that specializes in SEO. You need to decide which option works better at getting your content in front of your target market via search engines and which method will have the best effect on your bottom line.
Partnering Your SEO
I like to think of myself as a DIY aficionado. Self-reliance is kind of my thing. So I get the idea of trying to do the SEO on my own–or hiring someone that is close to me to accomplish the task. This strategy has its downsides, however. Consider the recent DIY experience I had.
A friend asked me to build a website for him. I’d done it for myself before, but never for someone else. Flattered that he thought I’d be of service, I proceeded with vigor. It didn’t take much more than a few days before I realized one very simple fact–I lacked the necessary resources. I had conflicting demands on my time, a limited amount of experience to draw from, a lack of established systems and processes, and no one to delegate any responsibility to. I finished the project on pure will power, but I was exhausted. An honest review of my own work showed me that it wasn’t my best and I wish I could have done much more for this friend than I was able to do.
When partnering your SEO, are you hiring an individual or small team that is capable of successfully implementing your strategy and that has access to necessary resources, no schedule conflicts, extensive experience, established systems and processes, and the ability to call on team members to help meet your deadlines? Outsourcing your SEO strategy has several benefits. These benefits include, but are not limited to:

A friend or family member brought on as a partner might be knowledgeable about SEO, but in the end that knowledge must be paired with resources. Outsourcing your SEO to a reputable company means that you get access to a company with the resources necessary to actually deliver results.
One of the most important resources available to a well-established SEO company is the ability to track and analyze search engine algorithm updates. Using various analytics tools, companies can analyze the historical performance of a large group of their own customers in order to track the effects of algorithm updates in real time. Keeping abreast of algorithm changes allows a company to quickly adapt so that your rankings continue to improve.
Anyone can use analytics for themselves or a group of partner clients, but well-established SEO companies have the advantage of seeing how algorithm changes affect both individuals and large groups. Large sample sizes show real trends. Small sample sizes are easily misinterpreted.
Established SEO companies also have large groups of skilled workers dedicated to specific SEO tasks. This allows for more quality SEO work done in your time frame and budget, which translates into getting higher rankings more quickly and consistently.
