Talor Gatenby, Closet Concert Pianist and Keyword Research Slueth
Talor Gatenby, a Provo, Utah native, started working at Boostability in 2014. More than half a decade later, she’s become the Keyword Research team lead. She spends her days determining which keywords to target for a given client’s campaign, and making sure her team does the same. Apart from being truly dedicated to the Boost mantra, “Be customer fanatics,” she’s a woman who enjoys the simple things in life—old movies, the great outdoors, and avoiding cars in parking lots. (We’ll get to that later.)
Quick! An elevator pitch! Tell us about yourself in 50 words or less.
I grew up with a big family of eight people. I am the third oldest child in the family. I enjoy hiking, camping, and kayaking when I’m able to.
How do you explain what you do to friends and family, especially when they’re not familiar with tech or SEO?
Boost helps get companies’ websites to the first page of Google. My team specifically looks at the Google Results, the client’s website, and the industry to determine the best keyword phrasings (services) to focus on in their campaign.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy the most from my job is how willing this company is with giving us opportunities to grow our knowledge, management experience, and our careers. They encourage shadowing throughout the company so that we can understand each team in the company to better work together and learn more about SEO.
What do you like about Boost’s company culture?
I love everything about the culture here at Boostability. Being here for almost seven years, it’s been fun to watch us grow from a bunch of long card tables in the Wolverine Crossing office to this booming international company without losing our fun, start-up culture. Everyone person here contributes to the company and you as an individual matter. You’re not just another employee here.
Describe an on-the-job experience where you grew your skills or learned something new.
My department holds a Leadership Training for those who are looking to learn new or expand their current leadership skills. They’ve taught us how to interview people, how to organize, prioritize, ways to de-escalate escalations, etc. This has helped me as I’ve become a leader as well.
How has Boostability prepared you for your future or furthered your career goals?
Boost has provided leadership skill training, presenting training, interview training, and constructive feedback.
What’s your take on the digital marketing industry, especially from someone working in your particular role?
With our company helping small businesses succeed online, our clients really are putting everything they get into their websites. I really try to lookout for our clients and their websites. If there’s anything I see that can help their campaign out, I will do it.
What do you like to do when you aren’t at work?
When I’m not at work, I like to relax at home, watch older movies, listen to music, or be outdoors.
What’s something unique about you that people couldn’t tell just by looking at you?
I have been playing Piano for 18 years now.
If you could make a guest appearance on a TV show, what show would you choose?
Queer Eye. I’d love them to teach me their ways.
Anything else you want to share about yourself?
I’m the most accident-prone person you’ll ever meet. No really, when you can say you’ve been hit by a car (body being hit by a car) in a parking lot, there’s not much more you can top after that.
