Kay Bird, Sales Manager and Spongebob Meme Enthusiast

With a hair color that would put Katy Perry to shame, Kay Bird stands out as a manager on the sales team. With over six years at Boost under her belt, Kay’s a familiar face in the Lehi, Utah office. She’s no stranger to the tough, competitive, and fast-paced atmosphere common to the tech industry, but she takes it all in stride. Here’s what she had to say when we asked her about her time at Boostability and her life outside of work.

Kay’s pink hair is making us rethink our life choices—in a good way.

Quick! An elevator pitch! Tell us about yourself in 50 words or less.

I’m just a girl with pink hair, trying to raise a couple of amazing humans, and get through through the day without tripping over something.

How do you explain what you do to friends and family, especially when they’re not familiar with tech or SEO?

I love our mission statement: we help small businesses succeed online! To expand on that, we make sure small businesses have everything they need to be found online.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love the people I work with, and the fact that almost every single day presents a new challenge. I’m never able to claim that I’m bored at work, and I love that!

What do you like about Boost’s company culture?

The culture here is just amazing! Every day I’m surrounded by people who care about their team on a personal and a professional level. The culture pushes people to be their best, and through that I have found some amazing mentors over the years (special shout out to Trish and April!), and continue to learn from everyone around me.

Describe an on-the-job experience where you grew your skills or learned something new.

I’ve had so many over 6 years here at Boost, but one time stands out. I was asked to build and lead a new team for a new product we were launching. I was able to develop and test new processes, find and test tools that were later pushed to the entire department, and really push myself to stand behind my decisions and instincts. That experience taught me so much, and taught me to be confident in my abilities.

How has Boostability prepared you for your future or furthered your career goals?

How hasn’t Boostability prepared me?! I have had so many different responsibilities across nearly every client-facing team at the company, that my skills can apply to nearly every situation I find myself in, both professionally and personally.

What’s your take on the digital marketing agency, especially from someone working in your particular role?

Ours is an industry that is constantly changing, but the one thing that doesn’t change is the importance of the client experience. From the very first sales call, to the 18th monthly check-up, our clients deserve our best.

What do you like to do when you aren’t at work?

I have two of the cutest kids ever (that’s a 100% objective opinion), and they keep me and my husband beyond busy! I love just hanging out with my amazing family and our derpy dogs, one of which is ours because of a Boost volunteer activity at the Humane Society, by the way. Every day is an adventure in our crazy house!

What’s something unique about you that people couldn’t tell just by looking at you?

I’m a total nerd, through and through. I can also have an entire conversation in SpongeBob gifs and/or memes.

If you could make a guest appearance on a TV show, what show would you choose?

Grey’s Anatomy, because it’s Grey’s Anatomy.
