No matter how much you like a song, listening to the same music over and over can get stale quickly. It doesn’t matter if it’s an old favorite or your new jam, it’s important to get some variety in your life. So, with that in mind, we wanted to update our Spotify playlist on the Boost Blog.

We are going to periodically update our playlist throughout the year, choosing to celebrate holidays, seasons, and special events with mixes from different genres and diverse artists. We will highlight each new playlist with a post about the songs or artist on the list.

The New Stellar Boost Jams

This new playlist commemorates actors who moonlight as musicians and who have March birthdays, and who also have music available on Spotify. While the list was surprisingly extensive, we chose two actors whose talents are truly “out of this world” – William Shatner and Leonard Nemoy.

You may know these two as the original Captain James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock from the movies and television show Star Trek. And when they’re not traversing the Cosmos, they’re singing.

William Shatner

Born March 22, 1931, Shatner gained fame as the well-spoken Captain of the Starship Enterprise. What William Shatner does is not what you would really call singing, but it’s incredibly enjoyably. He breathes new life into classic songs like Bohemian Rhapsody, Rocket Man, and Major Tom (Coming Home).

William Shatner has eight albums of spoken word music.

Leonard Nemoy

Leonard Nemoy, born on March 26, 1931, played the logical Mr. Spock on the hit series. And like his character, there was a deeper, more emotional layer to Nemoy. Leonard Nemoy recorded five albums of various folk music. Some of his songs focused on peace, love, and harmony, while others stayed within the Sci-Fi/fantasy genre we knew him so well in.

Even though he has passed on, we can still remember him through his music.

Honorable Mentions

Although we only highlighted two artists this round, there were others we wanted to add but whose music wasn’t available on Spotify, didn’t have birthdays in March, or whose music just didn’t fit the sound we were going for. This list is in no particular order, but should all be researched and enjoyed to the fullest extent possible:

  • Bruce Willis
  • Shaquille O’Neal
  • Eddie Murphy
  • Kobe Bryant
  • Kevin Durant
  • Paris Hilton

We will feature this playlist for the next few weeks. You can follow us on Spotify at Boost Jams for this and other great playlists.
