Searching, Verbatim
Published on November 22, 2011, by Jordan Colton
I just started reading a book on the story of Google. In the 90′s, searching online was much more difficult than it is today. Once Google hit the stage and brought with it a much smarter search engine, it was so much easier to find what I needed.
Since then Google has worked in more ways than one to improve search and help you find exactly what you are looking for. This includes the automatic spell checker, Google Instant Search, personalizing your search with sites you’ve already visited, including synonyms, and more. One of the most recent updates is searching verbatim.
Google has said “…we’ve received a lot of requests for a more deliberate way to tell Google to search using your exact terms. We’ve been listening, and starting today you’ll be able to do just that through verbatim search. With the verbatim tool on, we’ll use the literal words you entered…” Which is exciting! I know I still struggle at times to spell some words and am glad that Google auto-corrects me, but there are also those times where I am typing in a search and I know exactly how it should be spelled because it is a business.
To find this option you will go to the search options section on the side of your search within Google. Look in “More Search Tools” and it will be within that list as shown here:
Give it a shot, and share with us your thoughts on this new tool. Do you think it’s a great addition? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
